First-Ever Robotics Competition Arrives in Ghana

Ghana secondary school students have been given an opportunity to take part in the first unique robotics program and competition. Named “Ashesi Robotics Experience (ARX)”, this competition is ebing conducted by Ashesi University College and The MasterCard Foundation.

It is scheduled from August 6 to 10 2012. The main objective of the competition is to stimulate African high school students to pursue engineering, computer science, and other market-relevant education at the university level.

Honorable Mahama Ayariga, Ghana's Deputy Minister of Tertiary Education will attend ARX. Also, Ashesi's local and international partners will also be present at the competition.

Starting on August 6, ARX will have 60 select high school students from Ghana to take part in the workshops at Ashesi. During this week-long program, a team of faculty, staff and students from Ashesi will assist the participating student teams to construct and program robots, and to involve in computational thinking activities. ARX competition serves as a platform for students to compete in robotic challenges. The winning team will be declared during the ARX graduation ceremony.

Ashesi University's partnership with The MasterCard Foundation inspires ARX students with educational opportunities at Ashesi. The MasterCard Foundation will provide support for 200 proficient, underprivileged students from Africa for the next nine years to pursue their education at Ashesi. A comprehensive set of financial, career, academic, and mentorship supports will be granted to the applicable students. During the course of their studies, students will take part in volunteerism and service learning, promoting leadership qualities among students.
