A new elegant, precise and metallic industrial robot industrial robot has been developed, which will turn CeBIT’s Fraunhofer stand into an art studio.
The industrial robot’s integrated camera records an image of the model positioned at its anterior. With the help of a pencil, the portrait of the individual on its easel is outlined. The process continues and ultimately results in a stunning display within 10 min. The installation of this robot was developed by artists in the robotlab group, at the Center for Art and Media ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany, along with System Technologies and Image Exploitation IOSB in Karlsruhe.
This innovative industrial robot offers an authentic presentation of a person's facial expressions. An IOSB scientist, Martina Richter informed that an image-evaluation process has been used that endows the robot with the sense of sight. The installation of camera on the robot's arm is the primary tool utilized for capturing the image. The edge-processing software is used to analyze the contrasts in the image, leading to its integration with the movements of the robot's arm. However, the current mission of the researchers and artists is to modify the algorithm for image processing.
Researchers at IOSB determined the different functions of robot by employing it to study the optical reflection properties of various materials. The robot emits a bright illumination on objects capable of reflection. The robot's arm circles the material sample in a hemispheric pattern and evaluates the reflection of light by the object, known as material's spatial reflection characteristics. This application may be employed in designing cars for safety.
