ABB Group has won considerable number of marine orders worth US $200 million from Samsung Heavy Industries, Keppel FELS, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Jurong Shipyard.
The contract requires ABB to supply 23 new jack-up and DP drilling vessels and one FPSO for South Korea and Singapore. These vessels are to be commissioned for extraction of oil and natural gas and transporting them. For these operations semi-submersible drilling rigs, mobile oil and gas platforms, storage and offloading vessels would be required.
The head of ABB’s process automation, Veli-MattiReinikkala, said that receiving such high value orders reinstated their reputation in providing highly efficient solutions for marine applications. The energy efficiency of the ships will be enhanced and the power supply to the components present onboard will be more reliable and continuous after completion of the contract. The power supply will be supplied to the electrical systems and the equipment associated with the systems including transformers, generators, distribution boards etc. Apart from the above the motors that drive the thrusters and the drilling systems on the ships will also be supplied power by the new system. The automation solutions from ABB are specifically developed for plant electrification and are highly useful for the clients to cater to the critical needs in business. By implementing ABB provided solutions the customers can achieve operational profitability and enhance energy efficiencies. Additionally, risk management abilities are also improved.
