The horror of the devastating Japan earthquake, Tsunami and nuclear meltdown at Fukushima in March this year has left many injured and homeless besides having claimed thousands of lives. The furry robotic seals named Love and Peace are doing their part to help comfort those who lived through it.
The residents of the Suisyoen Nursing Home, received the robotic seals as a gift from the robotic division of the Japanese company Daiwa House. The general manger of the nursing home Taku Katoono said that the therapeutic robots can be used in the same way as living animal pets such as dogs or cats. The animals can be held and provide companionship similar to a pet.
Taku Katoono said that while keeping live pets is difficult in the nursing home the robotic seals offer s viable alternative that can provide much the same use. The elderly residents of the nursing home also find the seals cute and soft. They can be cuddled just like a living creature. The only trouble is that their batteries tend to run out.
