With the inauguration of the Yotel at Times Square in New York City, automated robots will help visitors to manage their luggage.
According to sources from Wired, the robot specifically designed for the task, called a Yobot, can choose and transport luggage from a massive luggage rack. The robot, measuring about 15ft tall, is present in the lobby of the hotel. It is used to keep luggage pieces in hotel lockers.
The Yobot is a useful solution for visitors who carry additional bags that might take up more room space. It is also useful for visitors who arrive much before check-in time.
According to a report from The New York Times, visitor’s bag travels on a slab and the robot picks up the luggage and pushes it into one of the lockers normally by twisting, bending and other acrobatic movements. Visitors receive a bar-coded ticket in return, which has to be inserted into the system when they want their bags. The system is user-friendly.
