Advanced Humanoid Robots to Assist Visitors

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (Adnec) will start testing a robot to assist and give directions to visitors at the Emirate's expo centre.

The pilot project introduces the 2011-REEM (Reem), which will provide information to visitors about key locations within the area.

The 2011-REEM (Reem), will be introduced to customers at the International Defense Exhibition & Conference (IDEX 2011), which opens on February 27, 2011 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Reem is manufactured by PAL Robotics, a Royal Group multinational company, based in Abu Dhabi.

The latest prototype of Reem stands at a height of 1.65m. Reem has also been designed to greet a number of VIPs who will be visiting the tenth anniversary edition of IDEX.

The robot comes equipped with sensors and a multimedia touchscreen that displays information in numerous formats. The robot is also capable of talking to a helpdesk attendant through a video conference. With a mobile base, the robot can travel at a speed of 5km/hour. Reem features advanced capabilities such as a motorized head with vision, face tracking and recognition functions.
