A New York hotel says goodbye to bellboys as a robot now gets your luggage. At Yotel the robot who handles your bags is the first of many high tech amenities that guests experience. The hotel’s ambience is just about as futuristic as it can get.
Yotel CEO Gerard Greene said that they sought guest who were young at heart. He believed that the Yotel was the iPod of the hotel industry. The chain of hotels began in 2007 with two properties in London Airports followed by one at Amsterdam airport. New York is the first non-airport location for Yotel besides being the first outside Europe.
There is purple lighting in the elevators at the New York Yotel to accompany the throbbing music. At the touch of a button you can transform the futon like sofa into a flat bed. The rooms are tiny at 170 square feet and Yotel calls them cabins.
The tiny desk in the cabin doubles as a nightstand and there are no mini - bars or fridges in the room. Aircraft designers, who were hired to make the rooms feel bigger than they were, put in some nice touches including an overhead shower that delivers water like rain in the small bathroom which has no tub. The heart of the hotel is the action packed terrace which is one of the hottest outdoor bars of this summer.
