ASIMO, Honda’s most advanced humanoid robot is to make its debut in the 2011 FIRST World Championship in St. Louis from April 28-30, where ASIMO would demonstrate its capabilities in 15 minute sessions.
It would walk forward and backward, climb stairs and run at a speed of 4mph and so on for the public and the FIRST participants to observe. ASIMO, which is an acronym for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, is the result of intensive research and development activities carried out by Honda Engineers for over two decades. It has been designed to help people in their homes in the future but currently it is being utilized to motivate and inspire youngsters to get interested in Science and math. It would be displayed in the Center Convention Complex at the Second Level Atrium.
The Media are invited to watch the first demonstration of ASIMO on April 28th at 10 a.m., where Honda spokespeople would be on hand, ready for a Q&A session. A special photo session has also been arranged with opportunities for taking videos with ASIMO after the demonstration.
Honda is one of the sponsors for the 2011 FIRST competitions. The main aim of FIRST is to create and develop innovative and accessible programs, which would help to build knowledge, confidence and life skills in young people and also inspire them to pursue careers in STEM disciplines.
