Hagiwara Sys-Com ., a manufacturer of storage and flash memory applications for industrial computers, has announced a new portable virus detection tool known as Vaccine USB for automation applications for industrial computers that use Windows.
As factory floor applications are changing to a Windows OS from a proprietorship operating environment, computers may be attacked by viruses that can pass through enterprise systems and disrupt operations on the plant floor. Installing an ordinary virus detection program on a plant floor system, which has sporadic access to the Internet, may stop updated virus definitions from downloading. It can also decelerate the performance of an industrial computer affecting the automation applications installed in the system.
Vaccine USB, a virus scan software, is powered by anti-virus software of McAfee . It needs no installation and it will run the program automatically. At first, the USB device has to be connected with a computer to download the most recent virus definition file from Internet. Then, the Vaccine USB has to be inserted into a Windows-based computer to begin the virus scan program.
Vaccine USB is specifically designed for industrial settings such as A/V equipment, factory automation, test and measurement devices, and medical systems. It will be made available in the market from next month.
