Anyone in Norway wishing to travel from Sykkylven to Spjelkavik is well advised to take the ferry. At the moment, a KUKA small robot of the KR AGILUS series is even shortening the wait time at the ferry dock in Aursnes, near Sykkylven.
Placed inside a man-size glass case, the robot entertains travelers with simulated laser engraving, precise robot motions and by gripping and setting down various tools.
The show cell was installed by the Norwegian company Amatec Automasjon. Starting from the rest position, the six-axis robot quickly begins moving. It picks up a laser pointer and precisely traces a line that looks similar to an elongated number 5.
Subsequently, it demonstrates its repeatability through a few repetitions of the motion. The robot then returns the pointer to its holder and devotes its attention to a square sign which reads “Hello. Amatec AS and I are helping the industry to achieve efficient and cost-effective production.”
With motions similar to those of a dummy in a display window, the KR AGILUS shows the sign to the waiting travelers in all directions. The robot then performs the same motions while holding a second panel with company advertising. To end the show, the KUKA small robot presses the emergency stop and the light goes out. Within a matter of seconds, the cell is dark and the performance is over. The waiting travelers then drive onto the ferry and the six-axis robot moves back to its starting position. Travelers can see the KR AGILUS on their way to the ferry until Easter.
