Sysmex Signs Automated Urinalysis Contract with Novation

Sysmex America Inc, a world leader in clinical laboratory automation solutions, has declared a three-year agreement with Novation for providing automated urinalysis solutions.

This contract enables Novation members including more than 25,000 members of VHA Inc., the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC), two national health care alliances and 5,500 members of Provista, LLC, to get an instant procuring/hiring access to Novation Sysmex UF-Series fully automated urine particle analyzers, reagents, controls and service. The company’ U.S. headquarters in Illinois will offer guidance and technological assistance for members. Besides this contract, Sysmex was provided with an associated agreement with Siemens' ADVIA Urinalysis WorkCell by Novation.

John Kershaw, President & CEO, Sysmex America, Inc expressed his pleasure over partnering with Novation in providing automated urinalysis methods that can improve Urinary Tract Infection screening efficiency. He added that this solution augmentation together with Sysmex instruments’ consistency and uptime will provide cost effective and high quality health care solutions to Sysmex’ members.

In October 2007, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services launched the new POA (Present on Admission) cost effective proposals which aimed at urinary tract infections (UTI) and hospital-acquired infections (HAI).  Sysmex’ automated urinalysis helps the laboratories to carry out cost-restrictive analysis of urine at microscopic level. It also facilitates easy recognition of patients who have pre-living bacteria in their urine which have to be highlighted during admission, thereby helping hospitals to put forward a diagnosis related group (DRG) facilitating repayment since the hospital is not imprecisely presumed to have instigated a hospital acquired infection.

Sysmex UF-100, the World’ first fully automated cell analyzer was released by Sysmex. The product’ first launch was made in Japan in 1995 and then in the United States in 1996. UF-100 combines the latest technology of fluorescent flow cytometry with fully automated urine formed-element sample investigation, thereby contributing to effective consistency and capability.

This agreement also embraces Sysmex Peak Performance Program, a complete collection of systems and resources that will contribute to enduring success to a clinical laboratory through all the phases of system implementation.
