Intelligent Hospital Systems (IH Systems) today announced that King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC), based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, purchased two RIVA systems for its pharmacy. RIVA, the only fully-automated pharmacy IV compounding system on the market today, was selected because of its ability to safely prepare medications in an aseptic environment and provide significant cost savings. The systems are scheduled for delivery and installation later this year.

The new RIVA contract is the latest development highlighting IH Systems’ expansion in the region. Local IH Systems distributor NAWAH, which facilitated the acquisition of KFSH&RC’s RIVA systems, was responsible for the placement of another system scheduled for installation in Doha, Qatar. NAWAH, a leader in healthcare and medical technology, serves as the company’s exclusive distributor in Saudi Arabia, State of Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Bahrain and State of Qatar.

Since its introduction in 2008, RIVA technology has safely and accurately prepared more than 2.2 million medication doses globally. RIVA, which is USP<797>-compliant, can process individual or batch doses in an ISO Class 5 environment, and is the only system with true walk-away capability. The system’s ability to handle extended production runs with no staff intervention required enables hospital pharmacies to prepare specific medication doses ahead of orders, reduce waste and more.
