Icron Technologies Corporation, a leader in USB and video extension technology, and The Imaging Source, a leading international manufacturer of industrial cameras for machine vision applications, confirmed today joint product interoperability between The Imaging Source’s new series of compact USB 3.0 cameras and Icron’s 100 meter fiber based USB extender, the USB 3.0 Spectra™ 3022.
Both products are designed to be in compliance with the Automated Imaging Association’s (AIA) USB3 Vision™ standard.
USB 3.0 cameras are rapidly increasing in popularity for machine vision applications due to their desirable blend of resolution, frame rate and affordability when compared to other camera interfaces. USB 3.0 cable reach is typically limited to about three meters, causing installation issues when longer distances are required. Icron’s Spectra 3022 extender solution eliminates this distance restriction enabling USB 3.0 machine vision cameras, such as those from The Imaging Source, to operate without issue over distances up to 100 meters.
The new series of compact USB 3.0 cameras from The Imaging Source are available in color or monochrome with resolutions from VGA to 5MP, and are ideally suited to machine vision applications in automation, traffic surveillance, quality assurance, medicine, logistics, microscopy and security. The new series features robust, industrial casing (29 x 29 x 47 mm) with a C/CS lens mount, trigger and digital I/0 inputs. The cameras ship with drivers for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8, the SDK IC Imaging Control 3.2 (.NET and C++ class library) and IC Capture. Furthermore, a number of automatic modes are available, which guarantee optimal image quality in varying light conditions.
Icron’s USB 3.0 Spectra™ 3022 is a two port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed extension solution, enabling USB 3.0 connections at up to 5Gbps over 100 meters of multimode fiber optic cable. The Spectra 3022 features two locking USB 3.0 ports, delivers 900mA power to each port, and is ideal for vision camera applications. The product does not require software drivers, works with all major operating systems and comes with a two year warranty.
“Providing our customers the confidence of a validated vision compliant distance solution, with full robust performance, is very important,” said Sebastian Bollhorst, General Manager at The Imagine Source. “Icron’s new 100 meter Spectra extender opens up incremental applications and use cases across our entire series of compact USB 3.0 cameras.”
“The Imaging Source is recognized as one of the world’s leading industrial vision camera manufacturers; supplying products for scientific, industrial and medical applications for more than twenty years,” stated Glenn Antonelli, Vice President of Marketing at Icron. “We are very pleased to add their cost effective USB 3.0 camera series to our ExtremeUSB® Vision Interoperability program.”
