Researchers Develop Robotic Marimba Player

A team of researchers at Georgia Institute of Technology have developed Shimon, a marimba playing robot. It can also effectively communicate with humans during its performance.

The Shimon robot was demonstrated at the USA Science and Engineering festival, which was held in Washington DC. The robot utilizes its on-board camera to identify humans. In order to enable it cope better with human counterparts, the team is working on upgrading the camera system for enabling the robot to recognize definite gestures of the musicians.
