PI Provides High-Accuracy Robotic Positioning Systems

PI (Physik Instrumente) offers comprehensive line of high precision 6-axis robotic parallel positioners (Hexapod/SpaceFAB) ideal for advanced applications in medical technology, bio/nano-technology, and lasers/photonics and aerospace.

Hexapod parallel positioners are provided in ranges such as classical articulated / stacked multi-axis positioners. Each actuator can be integrated to other actuators or motion axes in a serial configuration. All six actuators work in sync in a hexapod positioner, impacting common motion output platform. This design principle enhances robustness, thereby creating compact size and reducing the moving mass.

Advanced motion controllers and algorithms support control of sub-micron or nanometer-precise motion patterns in 6-D space. PI now offers new family of hexapod controllers. The seamless 6D vector controllers are equipped with software for simulation and programming of complex movements. There is standard ethernet connectivity for remote servicing and remote control based on an iPad app.

By acquiring precision motion control specialist miCos, PI offers another parallel robotic concept called SpaceFAB. SpaceFAB positioners pack the motion of three 2-axis planar positioners within a single low-profile 6 degree-of-freedom motion system.

Modern hexapods have been designed for an automotive tire testing machine, ensuring high precision in the sub-micrometer to nanometer realm. It can be applied in technology fields ranging from laser machining, medical engineering such as computer aided surgery, tumor radiation treatment, telecommunication like alignment of fibers and fiber-optic chips, X-ray microscopy and crystallography, semiconductor test & metrology such as positioning or alignment substrates, lasers, particle physics like high-energy experiments in accelerator rings, and astronomy in mirror alignment in large earthbound telescopes.
