Dayton, Ohio-based Sinclair Community College (SCC) has selected a division of United Technologies, UTC Aerospace Systems, to deliver the company’s small unmanned aerial system (SUAS) for deployment in training program conducted by SCC for first responders.
Scheduled for delivery by 2012-end, the system is being designed and manufactured by the Sensors & Integrated Systems team based in Burnsville, Minnesota. This is the first time for UTC to serve as a prime contractor for SCC in delivering a comprehensive micro SUAS.
As per the contract, UTC Aerospace Systems will deliver a complete system encompassing two air vehicles, data link, a tablet-style ground station, and electro/optical payload. High performance yet low-cost gyro-stabilized electro-optical cameras have been adopted by the highly autonomous system. Based on these highly-featured cameras, SUAS can generate reliable, affordable real-time video capabilities for a large number of situations. Sensors & Integrated Systems has teamed up with suppliers based in Dayton, Ohio including GeoSpatial, composite airframe provider, to extend support and sustain the unmanned aerial systems industry within Ohio.
