The Retail Industry Leaders Association states that ecommerce sales increased to $35.3 B last year and will have an annual growth of 10%.
Progress in ecommerce facilitates rapid and consistent availability of products to both on and offline customers. The supply chain has therefore been expanded to carry out multichannel distribution of goods from one warehouse, supplementing back-end fulfillment. The latest order-picking technologies like robotic goods-to-person solutions promote cost and time efficiencies, besides high performance.
Dematic has introduced its Multishuttle and RapidPick goods-to-person systems that enable better analysis of wholesale, retail and ecommerce fulfillment. In addition, they provide increased labor productivity and inventory storage space. By using these systems, the order-fulfillment process has been reversed, wherein the goods will reach the person fulfilling the order. Such automated solutions reduce the travel time involved in conventional picking methods and provide maximum flexibility, safety, and precision.
The Dematic Multishuttle is an advanced robotic system for automated storage and retrieval of totes, trays and cases. Upon deployment, it will dramatically improve the interface between bulk stock and operations including picking, sequencing, and order assembly. The system is compatible with all configurations of building, through which retailers can have speedy growth and modified product-demand profiles.
The Dematic RapidPick System has been designed for ergonomic split-case order fulfillment. Within an hour, it can allow pick rates of up to 1,000 line items per operator. Its compactly-designed configuration utilizes 30% to 65% smaller footprint when compared to other systems.
The Dematic Multishuttle and RapidPick Systems are being showcased from June 5 to 8, at the Internet Retailer Conference and Expo, in Chicago.
