First Humanoid in Space

The first Humanoid is ready to go into space after 15 years of behind the scenes preparation. The robot called Robonaut 2 is set for a trip on the space shuttle Discovery on the first of November this year.

R2 as it is known popularly, will make the trip in a box within a box cushioned with foam.

Designed by NASA and General Motors the humanoid robot has the torso, head and shoulders of a person and will work with the astronauts to complete chores and repairs on the International Space Station.

Eventually such humanoids will be sent into high risk situations where humans cannot go.
