OMNIlife science recently declared that around 1000 knee replacements were achieved based on OMNI’s APEX Robotic Technology (‘A.R.T.’). The company designs, produces and commercializes high quality medical devices for orthopedics.
APEX Robotic Technology is PRAXIM’s surgical navigation product. By using this intelligent instrumentation (A.R.T.), the surgeon can carry out intra-operative modification to effectively position the knee implant. PRAXIM’s patented BoneMorphing technology is capable of imaging the patient’s anatomy in a virtual 3D model. With the help of this model, an automated bone cutting guide can precisely be positioned. A.R.T. also helps solve the major challenges involved in conventional surgical procedures such as better precision in bone cutting, which will lead to suitable leg alignment.
According to OMNI’s President and CEO, George Cipolletti, during 1990’s, universal manual knee instruments marked a major milestone. Also, following its launch 15 years back, computer navigation resulted in excellent outcome. At present, the combination of computer navigation and robotic technology will help create advancement to the total knee replacement procedure. Clinical studies reveal that the A.R.T. platform enables the surgeon to have more precise implant placement with effective operative times than traditional manual instrumentation. Furthermore, within a short learning curve period the results were observed showing increased precision in implant placement.
