Cornell University is hosting a symposium, “Designing the Future: Cornell and the Technology of Today and Tomorrow,” in California.
The event is to be held at the Computer History Museum on North Shoreline Boulevard, Mountain View and is scheduled to take place on March 14, 2012.
Leaders in the technology industry will be participating in the conference who will give presentations on varied topics. The symposium will focus on robotics, repairing humans and technology. Panels including those on “Built environment and infrastructure design,” which talks about connected cities and infrastructure, “Experiential and media design,” a panel which discusses the future of human computer interaction and design, and “Product and gadget design,” a panel that studies sustainable consumer services and products are to be held.
Associate professor of engineering at Cornell, Hod Lipson, will give a presentation on "Curious and creative machines: Design in the age of robotics and artificial intelligence". Professor of human ecology at Cornell, C. C. Chu, will talk about "Nature-inspired design of biomaterials for human body repair." Behance’s Founder and CEO, and Cornell alumnus, Scott Belsky, will give a lecture on "Making ideas happen."
Other participants in the conference are also Cornellians and they include the President of Cornell University, David Skorton; CEO of Autodesk, Carl Bass; Lab126 Kindle product manager, Aaron Bromberg; VP of eBay Marketplaces, Dane Glasgow; Director of product design at Flickr, Phil King; Product design manager at Apple, Fletcher Rothkopf; User experience research manager at Google+, Laura Granka; Senior interaction designer at Hewlett-Packard, Samantha Berg; Kimon Tsinteris from Facebook and professor of computer graphics at Cornell, Don Greenberg.
