Automated NanoCell System to Facilitate Genomic Screening at Center for Genomic Science

HighRes Biosolutions has been selected by the Milan-based Center for Genomic Science of IstitutoItaliano di Tecnologia (IIT) for HighRes’ NanoCell laboratory automation system.

HighRes Bio NanoCell

The compact NanoCell system developed by HighResBiosolutions for high-content biology cell and enzyme based screening as well as compound delivery, will be installed at the Center’s Screening Unit in a biosafety level 2+ enclosure. The Nanocell system will automate high content and high throughput siRNA screens for the collaborative research programs held at the Center for Genomic Science (CGS). It will mainly be used for identifying molecular targets and markers associated with cancer.

The installation of automated systems is being steadily adopted by academic screening groups since it makes it possible to simultaneously screen several targets and conditions than manual or semi-automated methods. Featuring HighRes’ patented MicroDock stations, the flexibility offered by the modular robotic system is best suited for the dynamic nature of research among academic groups.

The Senior Researcher and the Coordinator of the Screening Unit at CGS, Mark Wade stated that the two main criteria of the decision-making process were flexibility and modularity offered by the system. Wade explained that the researchers will perform a wide range of assays to detect cell signaling pathways that are associated with pathological conditions, which are best provided by the NanoCell system. The solution can also be easily configured for specific assay developments, thus synergizing with the research at the Screening Unit and other activities at IIT.

The IstitutoItaliano di Tecnologia (IIT) has produced around 2000 publications and 75 patents. It promotes research in the fields of robotics, life sciences, nanostructures, nanophysics, nanochemistry, drug discovery, neuroscience and pattern analysis & computer vision.
