Hartford Hospital has been selected by Hansen Medical, a pioneer in flexible robotics and robotic technology, to be a Center of Excellence for the Sensei X Robotic Catheter System. This means experienced doctors will now be able to provide training to electro physiologists across the world in flexible robotics in an electrophysiology laboratory setting.
The new Center of Excellence, which is anticipated to begin operation in February 2012, will function as the training center for the Northern US. Hartford Hospital has also acquired its second Sensei X Robotic Catheter System, which makes this hospital as one of the leading heart centers to have two or more Sensei X Robotic Catheter Systems.
Hartford Hospital’s Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Dr. Steven Zweibel informed that the Sensei X System has transformed the way cardiac procedures are performed and has also increased the number of surgeries performed in the laboratory. This has made the hospital to offer a wider range of minimally invasive cardiac procedures to the patients.
According to Dr. Steven Shichman, Chairman of Peri-operative Services at Hartford Hospital and Medical Director of CESI, the hospital aims to become a prominent cardiovascular robotics program in the globe, and becoming a specialist in flexible robotics will offer clinical recognition to the institute.
Hansen Medical's President and CEO, Bruce Barclay stated that they selected Hartford Hospital based on its reputation for offering innovative care and outstanding excellence in teaching and research
