Simulated Surgical Systems, a pioneer in designing robot-assisted surgery simulators, declared that it has supplied its advanced Robotic Surgery Simulator to the Karolinska University Hospital based in Stockholm, Sweden.
Prior to the delivery, the Robotic Surgery Simulator was successfully tested to conform with CE specifications, thus paving the way for global sales.
The Robotic Surgery Simulator is the first technology to include training for surgical procedures. Its Hands on Surgical Training (HoST) modules, which are patented, utilize enhanced virtual reality to assist the trainee via the actions of a chief surgeon.
Simulated Surgical Systems, established in 2009, is a joint effort between the University at Buffalo's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Center for Robotic Surgery at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI). The company has developed advanced simulators that closely resemble the feel and touch of a robotic surgery system.
Co-founder Khurshid A. Guru MD is the director of the Center for Robotic Surgery at RPCI and serves as a staff physician in Urology. Thenkurussi "Kesh" Kesavadas PhD is a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University at Buffalo and is the director of the Virtual Reality laboratory.
Peter Wiklund, robotic surgeon at the Karolinska Institute, stated that the hospital is happy to receive the first Robotic Surgery Simulator in Europe and is looking forward to integrate it into its robotic surgery training program.
