Elbit Systems has secured an order to provide the Hermes 900 unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to a country’s government office in the Americas. The worth of this contract is valued to be around $50 million. This UAS will be used for a broad range of border security missions.
The company will carry out this project for more than a year. Satellite communication systems, advanced DCoMPASS payload systems from Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Elop and the Universal Ground Control Stations (UGCS) will be incorporated in this UAS.
The company has created this Hermes 900 UAS based on the wide range of experience of the Hermes 450, which has played a major role in the UAS operations of the Israel Defense Forces. Hermes 900 provides various improved abilities, from high flight elevation to larger payload potential and longer endurance. The unique structure of this UAS system has facilitated to carry different payloads in various sizes and shapes for fast conversion between payload patterns.
According to Elbit Systems UAS Division’s General Manager, Elad Aharonson, the Hermes 900 UAS has been chosen by the customers, based on the subsequent contracts by the Israeli Defense Forces and Chile. He added that this UAS has been used for security and perimeter missions, and intelligence missions. The array of Hermes 450 and Hermes 900 UAS with common ground control station will allow for flexibility and inexpensive operations.
