Houston Texas Market to Receive First Renaissance Surgical System from Mazor Robotics

Mazor Robotics has entered into a purchase agreement for the Renaissance system with Richard R.M. Francis of the Spine Associates of Houston and the Houston Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital.

Renaissance System

The Renaissance System is used for performing robotic guided spine surgery and Dr. Francis is known for his expertise in performing corrective scoliosis and other spinal deformities. He intends to start using the Renaissance system at the Houston Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital for performing surgeries before the end of 2011.

He was confident that by using the Renaissance System he will be able to perform accurate and safe spinal surgery on patients suffering from advanced spinal deformities that result in favourable results. The CEO of Mazor Robotics stated that apart from the installation at Houston Hospital, the Renaissance System is being installed at other hospitals across the United States. The Renaissance system comprises of a robotics device which positions itself above the patient’s spine and a workstation that operates on advanced surgical planning software. The robotic system improves the accuracy of spinal implants and drastically reduces the scope for human errors such as misplaced screws, which end up in neurological complications. According to a recent study, the technology at Mazor Robotics offers superior performance when compared to conventional spinal surgical methods. From the patients viewpoint using Renaissance Surgical system means faster recovery times, minimal incision and reduced radiation exposure.
