Turkish Researchers Develop SURALP Humanoid

Researchers at the Istanbul's Sabanci University have developed SURALP, Turkey’s first humanoid robot. At a recent press meeting, the robot showcased various activities like grasping a beverage tin from a table, transferring it to a person and disposing the empty tin to the trash bin.

Dr. Kemalettin Erbatur, Head of the Team with Sabanci University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences has stated that the SURALP robot weighs 114 kg and its height is 164 cm. He said that the project cost was around 1 million USD and was sponsored by TUBITAK, a national scientific research agency, Turkey. He mentioned that they had enabled vision to the robot by means of including micro cameras and incorporated joints for providing mobility and grasping ability.
