Aurora Flight Sciences Chooses Automated Fiber Placement Technology for Aerospace Construction

Aurora Flight Sciences has revealed plans of making major investments in Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) technology. They will be using this technology in the manufacture of large and more sophisticated composite structures, which are used in the aerospace industry.

By using this technology, the cost of manufacture is also reduced considerably. Aurora intends to use this technology in its Mississippi and Colorado manufacturing facilities.

Aurora has chosen Electroimpact from Washington as the supplier of the AFO machines. They will be performing the delivery of the machines by next year. Electroimpact is one of the top companies that supply automation equipment to the aerospace industry and are experts in the supply of detachable AFP heads, which provides high degree of flexibility in the manufacturing process. Aurora has plans of incorporating the AFP technology in the manufacture of aircrafts to the US Government, Northrop Grumman and Boeing. The AFP technology is useful in building composite structures, which can be used in the aircrafts that are being currently used in the industry and also for future advancements. Some of the aircrafts that are manufactured at Aurora include Orion, Centaur, Skate and Golden Eye 80.
