AeroVironment has launched the Qube, UAS which can be used on missions aimed at providing public safety, like first response or law enforcement. The Qube UAS is a compact, portable system which can be unpacked and be made ready for use in less than five minutes.
The cost of the system is considerably less when compared to manned aircrafts. Tom Herring, the senior vice president at AeroVironment, stated that the aircraft was designed keeping in mind the requirements put forward by public safety professionals, who expressed the need for a portable aerial vantage point that will help safety workers in rendering safer and effective service. After the development of vehicles like Puma, Wasp and Raven UAS and their great success in the battle field, customers are looking for a similar solution fine-tuned to meet their mission needs.
The Qube is a Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) vehicle which is capable of staying aloft for around 40 mins. The aircraft is provided with dual colour thermal cameras that capture and transmit live videos to the operator. These videos help in achieving situational awareness, threat assessment and in search and rescue missions.
AeroVironment has been providing technology solutions which can be integrated into Unmanned Aircraft Systems and electric transportation solutions. Some of the other aircrafts that they have developed are Raven, Wasp, Puma systems.
