Hair Sciences Center Introduces Robotic ARTAS System for Hair Treatment

Hair Sciences Center, a hair restoration clinic based in Denver run by James A. Harris, has introduced the ARTAS system into their hair treatment product line.

The ARTAS system which has been certified by the FDA is an interactive, physician-controlled, computer-based robotic device used for treating hair loss. Dr. Harris uses the surgically advanced follicular extraction (SAFE) system on the ARTAS. The SAFE system was developed by Dr. Harris which surgically isolates the single hair follicles without causing pain like the conventional methods.

The ARTAS system provides a number of advanced features such as image-guided robotic arm, small dissection punches, computer interface and special imaging techniques. Once the system is positioned over the scalp area of the patient that needs treatment, it automatically identifies those follicles which are best suited for transplant.

The follicles are stored and implanted into the patient’s scalp later. This method is called follicular unit extraction (FUE), it is minimally invasive and the pain is hardly felt by the patient as only tiny areas are sampled. The ARTAS system is quick and offers a saving in the costs as well. Dr. Harris explained that this method has been tried on more than 350 patients and causes minimum pain and leaves no scars on the scalp. The ARTAS system was developed by Restoration Robotics.
