US-based, Civco Medical Solutions is demonstrating its motion management systems range, which includes the Protura Robotic Patient Positioning System and the RFSuite RFID Tracking and Verification System, at ASTRO 2011. It will also hold a symposium titled, “The Future of Motion Management-from Micro to Macro,” on the 3rd of October.
The Protura Robotic Patient Monitoring System has the ability to position patients with a freedom of six degrees and with accurate sub-millimetre measurements. The system integrates linear accelerators and IGRT solutions. Cancer centres in particular have great use of this system as they can visualise and locate anatomy more accurately through the systems’ advanced imaging. This in turn helps doctors to provide accurate treatments within a short time period as it helps doctors to reposition the patients without entering their rooms. Currently, 14 Protura systems have been installed across four countries and several other installations are outstanding.
The RFSuite RFID Tracking and Verification System helps doctors and nurses to track and locate the position of patients, equipment and accessories, thus reducing the time taken to search for misplaced equipment and accessories and the waiting time of patients. The company has also come up with a patient positioning system called the New Horizon Prone Breastboard, which positions patients accurately and comfortably for prone breast treatments. Doctors can change the settings of the system according to each patient by adjusting the height, indexible prone face cushion, hand placement and other features of the system in order to position patients comfortably. According to Geoffrey Dalbow, Chief Technology Officer at Civco, the company has been collecting clinical data from the Hospital San Raffaela in Italy and Moores Cancer Centre in the US, on the reduction of errors and improvement of radiation oncology workflow through the usage of RFID Systems.
