Kiva Systems revealed that Timberland Company will be implementing a Kiva solution for automating the retail, wholesale and direct-to-consumer fulfilment activities from Kiva Systems. The Kiva system will be used in the new European Distribution Center of Timberland in Almelo, Netherlands that is still under construction.
A senior manager at Timberland, David Rupert explained that the need for flexibility in managing a variety of workflows and different order requirements in footwear, accessories, apparel etc can be easily managed by implementing the Kiva system robotic inventory management system.
The inventory automation solutions from Kiva incorporate a number of robotic drive units to transport inventory on mobile shelves to the workers. Through the system the workers are able to access and handle the inventory conveniently. The Kiva systems have the distinction of being able to handle inventory of various shapes and sizes and helps in saving a lot of time spent in shuttling between storages in the warehouse. The warehouse automation solution provided by Kiva takes care of forward replenishment, packing, placement, sorting, finishing and conducting quality inspection as well. The director of the European Distribution Center at Timberland pointed out that the automation solution from Kiva offers unmatched precision and high standards of performance. He added that by implementing the automation solution Timberland will be able to improve their productivity, accuracy and provide real-time order fulfilment.
