The Smart Vacuum Cleaning Robot from LG Electronics was successful in reaching the final round at the IERA Awards.
The vacuum cleaner has earned the distinction of being the only robotic cleaner that has been honoured by the IERA and the red dot design award. IERA award recognises innovative ideas by entrepreneurs who convert these ideas into world-class products.
The HOM-BOT comes with a host of advanced features such as dual eye camera sensor, infrared and ultrasonic sensors. One of the lenses of the dual eye camera covers the images from the top fascia and the other covers from the bottom area, thus giving comprehensive visual data. The upper lens maps memorises the floor plans and the lower lens is capable of detecting distances and provides plotting paths for the robot with the help of the Optical Flow Sensor.
In addition to the dual eye camera sensor, infrared and ultrasonic sensors are also present. These sensors serve to identify obstacles and help in the prevention of occurrence of bump-and –retreat action. There is an in-built failsafe system, consisting of an accelerometer and a gyro sensor, which helps the HOM-BOT to steady itself in case it collides with an obstacle. The HOM-BOT operates very quietly, with a noise level of 60dB.
Apart from being recognised by the IERA, the robot has won the red dot design award. The winner was chosen from 4,433 products from 1,700 companies across the world. The award ceremony would be held in Germany on the 4th of July.
