Most of the companies show hesitation in considering used industrial robots for automating their units. The most common misconceptions in considering used robots are that they are slow and finicky in their functioning.
Companies are misled by these ideas and do not opt for used robots in automation inspite of their lower cost. RobotWorx, however, has been an exception in this regard and has been successfully providing its customers with efficient, reliable and fully warrantied robotic solutions with used robots.
Jarrod Bichon, the President of RobotWorx, explained that they concentrate on making automation an affordable option by taking a new look at the concept of used robots. He expected other companies to revisit the concept of used robots by exploring the performance and affordability that they have to offer. The driving force behind the success of RobotWorx is the attention they pay to minute details. They have set up an acquisition team that looks and scrutinises each of the robots for hours of usage and wear and approves only those that are minimally used. The work environments and the applications that they had worked on earlier are also considered in the evaluation. Reconditioning work begins after the acquisition team gives a go ahead on the robot. The reconditioning is done both on the internal parts and the exterior body. As part of the reconditioning process, each of the robotic sub-systems such as the manipulator, controller and teach pendent are subjected to 168-point inspection. A complete cleaning and testing of all the parts is done and if required some parts are replaced as well. Final touch to the reconditioning is a fresh coat of painting. Bichon fixes the price of the robots at 40 to 50% less than that of the new robots. RobotWorx warranties each of their robots; hence, customers need not be too worried about any risk involved in opting for used robots.
