FANUC Robotics’ Delta Robots Help Assembly Automation

The delta robot from FANUC Robotics has developed into a high-speed solution that is ideal for a range of applications such as material handling, picking, and assembly. FANUC Robotics delivers two variants of delta robots.

The FANUC M-1iA is a compact, parallel-link, lightweight robot built with four or six axis. It has a small envelope and foot print that enables it to be mounted near a manual operation with minimum engineering. A bigger variation of the M-1iA, the M-3iA robot has four or six-axis. The M-3iA has a similar parallel-link arrangement and offers a maximum payload capacity of up to 6kg.

The M-3iA can be used for a variety of applications such as high-speed sorting of bakery items and an automotive engine facility. The six-axis variant of FANUC can be used to perform tasks involving tooling and/or controlling machine parts at various compound angles. FANUC Robotics allows the automation of several tasks which are currently either manual or performed using expensive hard automation.

The payload of delta robots is relatively less than that of serial robots, but their use of intelligence compensates for it. The six axis delta robots can be used to perform complicated assembly applications that involve the use of remote force sensing. Vision cameras can be installed directly to the tooling of delta robot or mounted in a fixed position over the robot’s work envelope.
