A contract was signed between Siemens, China, and Hebei Iron & Steel Group, one of the leading steelmakers in China, for supplying drive and automation systems to be used for a new rolling mill set up for rails and heavy sections.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to start in July 2011. The mill, to be installed at Handan Iron & Steel, will deliver rolled products for infrastructure application.
The process automation systems for the new heavy-section in the city of Handan in the province of Hebei will be designed and supplied by Siemens. Siemens will supply nearly 600 drive systems of Sinamics S120 design, motors and the motor control centers for the new mill.
With an estimated production capacity of 1.38 million tons, the rolling mill developed for heavy rails and sections will be capable of meeting the ever-increasing demands of transport infrastructure. Back in 2010, Siemens also installed electrical and automation systems for a rod mill and a wire mill of Handan Iron & Steel.
