Rochester Institute of Technology Hosts FIRST Robotics Event

A total of 44 teams competed to bag the coveted Chairman’s Award at the 2011 Finger Lakes Regional FIRST Robotics event that was held on March 4, 2011 and March 5, 2011.

The regional competition took place at the Gordon Field House at Rochester Institute of Technology between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

A total of 33 teams, comprising students from various high schools across US and Canada, will participate in the Finger Lakes regional competition. The event will have students from Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

The FIRST Robotics Competition will start with a new robotics game called “LOGO MOTION, where two alliances of three teams will compete on a playing field with poles. Teams will be attempting to earn points by hanging as many triangle, circle and square tubes as possible. Bonus points will be secured by each robot that can hang and assemble tubes to form the FIRST logo. Robots will also deploy Mini-Bots that will climb vertical poles.
