Woodlawn High School Students Aspire to Enter F.R.C. Robotics Championship

The robotics team at Woodlawn High School, Panthrobotics, hopes to compete with more than 2,000 teams across the country in the NASA F.R.C. Robotics Championship.

The team has started work with a kit of parts from NASA. The kit comprises rotary actuators, pneumatic pistons, solenoids, and a compact computer equipped with joystick controls. The team is expected to build a robot that can carry an inflatable plastic logo across the playing field and position it at a height of 10 feet.

The challenging part of the competition lies in the fact that other teams, with their own robots, will try to hinder the robots from functioning properly. The team works effectively under the supervision of local engineers and staff from the LSU engineering department.

Team Panthrobotics will pack their robot on Tuesday and send it to Westwego, where their robots will be judged part by part. Based on the performance of their robots, team Panthrobotics will qualify for the regional competition in March. Students will put the robot through its practice sessions at the Sherwood Lake workshop this Saturday.
