APM Terminals to Include APS Automated Gate System

APS Technology Group Inc., a global supplier of optical character recognition (OCR) and automation solutions for various terminals, has declared the implementation of its automated gate system in APM Terminals at Apapa in Nigeria, which is the biggest West African container terminal. APS automated gate system helps in organized trafficking across 18 lanes of this terminal.

The automated systems to be employed in the terminal include 18 driver kiosks with high-security entry control barriers, four OCR and damage-monitoring portals and a biometric safety system for recording and authorizing drivers at the entrance and exit.

Russ Scheppmann, President, APS Technology, expressed his pleasure over working with APS for implementing this innovative automated system in Lagos. He added that this initiative of APM depicts their prolonged dedication to West Africa in supplying latest terminal operations by assisting their clients to develop their trade.

APM Terminals is the recipient of the 2010 ‘Safety at Sea’ International award under the Management and Operations category. The company was also included in the 2010 Lloyd's List, and was referred to as the "Terminal Operator of the Year".
