Linton Family Pharmacy has included a new robot for precisely counting tablets and filling prescriptions. Dubbed ‘Rex’, the robot can work incessantly and effectively than its human counterpart.
The pharmacy has become the first in the Greene County to include a robotic staff. Whenever a prescription has to be filled, the pharmacist gives instructions to the robot via a computer.
Jeff Doris, Pharmacist, has stated that the Rex robot is aware of the type and quantity of the tablets to be counted. He mentioned that after counting, the robot tags a vial and places it near the drug-holding cell. He added that the robot uses sensing technology to count the pills coming out of the cell, places a cap on the vial and then keeps it in the collecting area.
The pharmacy staff has to check with the robot whenever they are including pills in the cells or removing a vial from the collecting area. In addition, the robot records pictures of drugs included in the vials. This enables the pharmacy staff to cross verify when clients place any queries.
Rex has been well received by the pharmacy clients. The robot can carry around 250 tablets and it has been doing prescription filling work for a month.
