General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) has received a grant of $20.3 million from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for incorporating an automated baggage screening system, thereby improving TSA’s attempts to increase safety at the airports.
Louis Traverzo, Federal Security, General Mitchell International Airport has stated that with the help of the automated luggage inspection system, the TSA officials can effectively identify potentially hazardous items like explosives. He added that this system can simplify the checking process and can probably decrease the possibility of opening the bags, thereby giving a better experience for the travelers.
The In-line luggage screening system adopts state-of-the-art expertise for rapidly checking the baggage for explosives while organizing boarding and ticketing methods. This can greatly reduce the necessity for the travelers to take their checked luggage to the inspection location before reaching the security checkpoint. In addition, this automated system can potentially bring down the frequent re-scans by offering on-screen determining possibilities for the security personnel who are inspecting the baggage.
It was expected that with TSA’s support, 100% luggage screening can be performed which in turn can assist around 8 million travelers visiting MKE every year.
