Pentagon to Increase Military Robots in U.S. Armed Forces

Lt. Col. Dave Thompson, Head of the Marine Corps Robotics Division, met the audience at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International in Washington. He stated that the Pentagon has planned to increase the number of military robots in the US Army.

At present robots constitute 2% of the US Armed Forces. Ground forces of the US Defense are deploying compact robots for several operations like inspection and monitoring.

The US military use robots at several security areas to check for bombs beneath or inside vehicles before reaching the gate.  Robots have also been deployed to guide crew members in defusing explosives on the roadside.

Several limiting factors of robots include troubles created by small obstacles like sticks found on its pathway and intelligence deficit. Hence new flying bots like military drones have been released. The officials of Pentagon consider that air-bots operated by warriors more proficient than ground robots and will be widely deployed in their army.
