iRobot to Support STEM Education Using Robotics

iRobot Corp., a global leader in providing robotic solutions, has declared the release of a new program called “20 in 20” by the end of this year for commemorating the company’s 20 years of service in the robotics industry.

As a part of this campaign, a panel of iRobot’s experts will tour, over a span of 20 weeks, covering 20 schools across the commonwealth, for providing presentations and demos to the K-12 students on robotics. The aim of this training is to educate students on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with the help of robotic technology and to motivate them to take up STEM based professions. It was reported by the company that the first school visit will be on September 20.

Colin Angle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of iRobot, expressed his excitement over starting their new program featuring their 20-year centenary remembrance. He added that America’s global domination in science and mathematics can be continued only by teaching technology to the young generation at an early stage and their program’s goal is to make sure that each student comprehends the extensive potential of the robotic technology and the career possibilities in the latest STEM areas.

The “20 in 20” campaign also features two envoys from Starter Programs for the Advancement of Robotics Knowledge (SPARK), who will move across the state all through the year to present demos on robotics to the K-12 students. The panel will record all the happenings by means of photos and videos and they will monitor the overall development on a virtual map. This will be followed by sharing vital interpretations through a communicative blog.

According to Dr. Carol R. Johnson, Superintendent of the Boston Public Schools, this program helps in taking classroom studying to the next phase by demonstrating the possible outcome of creative thinking while solving problems. He added that getting exposed to various job opportunities in STEM will be highly beneficial for the children across the state.
