Teachers Develop and Test Submersible Robots in a Weekend Workshop

Teachers from several Delaware-based schools participated in a weekend workshop organized by the SeaPerch program. The teachers developed and verified around 20 submersible robots to launch the SeaPerch project in local schools.

John Singer, Teacher of the P.S. du Pont STEM Learning Center for science, technology, engineering and math, has stated that they are focused on making science, math and technology teachers to participate in such an integrated program. He added that the STEM Learning Center of his school has planned to conduct a SeaPerch contest.

Chris Hansen, Technical Director of SeaPerch, asked the teachers to test their robots underwater. SeaPerch is sponsored by the Office of Naval Research and it trains teachers to implement the project in the middle and high schools.

Singer mentioned that development of these robots require math and science skills for measuring, cutting, combining pipes, including switches and developing a waterproof motor by coating it with wax.
