Niles High School announced that it will host a For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) robotics competition to be held from March 24 to March 26.
Coordinator of FIRST robotics competition, Laura Hollister stated that a minimum of 1,200 families, mentors, and students would take part in the competition.
Student teams participating in the competition will build a robot that has the potential to execute challenges outlined by the organization. The teams have an average member strength of 20 and the competition is restricted only for high school students.
The teams are broken into subgroups and will focus on numerous aspects such as software, design, finance, and business. Students are required to fine-tune the robot, in addition to designing, developing, and testing it.
Supervisor of the NHS team, Wayne Borr, commented that the students have been raising funds by interacting with local companies and organizations. Hollister added that students have put in an enormous amount of dedication to develop the robot. The students are given a maximum time of six weeks to develop the robot.
