Alma High School Participates in Annual National Robotics Competition

The mission 14 Alma High School students are participating in the annual national robotics competition to develop a robot that could perform activities such as hanging objects on a wall.

The Alma High School team¡¦s name is 'Team Phoenix'. NASA is the major sponsor of the competition.

The Alma High School students are getting assistance from math and physics teacher Steve Kettler, and Industrial arts teacher Gary Shimunek. The team is also getting help from the Consumers Energy workers, Zach Dickerson and John Chouinard, who are serving as volunteers in the national robotics competition. The robot is anticipated to be nearly 28" by 3 ft and will feature a camera that will make the operator to view what is happening and move the robot via the gym where the competition will be conducted.

Over 2,000 high school teams are participating in the national robotics competition. To develop the robot, each team received a kit on January 8, 2011. The kit comprised a camera, software, motors and batteries and numerous other materials. The teams have to complete their projects within six weeks and the last date of submission is February 19, 2011.
