Doctors at the Norwalk Hospital will showcase daVinci surgical robot at the Wilton Library Bruebeck Room on February 8, 2011. In Norwalk Hospital, daVinci surgical system is utilized for surgeries related to general, gynecology and urology.
Jonathan E. Bernie, Chief of Robotic Surgery at Norwalk Hospital, has stated that daVinci robot offers three-dimensional image and higher accuracy, helping surgeons to carry out complicated procedures using a less-invasive method.
Robot-assisted procedures offer improved surgical efficiencies and enhanced clinical results for patients. It also involves minimum blood loss, less post-operative distress, quicker recovery and patients can easily resume their normal life.
During the daVinci-assisted procedure, the surgeon can clearly view inner tissues and organs and surgery is performed via minor incisions. The surgeon sits at an exclusive console and the surgery is performed using the robot with the help of 3D visualization of the surgical area. The master controls are grabbed by fingers of the surgeon and movements made by the surgeon are exactly mimicked by the surgical system. The robot moves the surgical systems correspondingly inside the patient.
Public are also invited to discuss with the surgeons of Norwalk Hospital regarding robotic surgery and to operate daVinci robot on their own.
