SYNNEX Canada Sponsors Greater Toronto Central Region FIRST Robotics Competition

As a part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative, SYNNEX Canada Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SYNNEX Corporation, a leading Technology Solutions distributor, announces its continued investment in the development of the future IT workforce through its sponsorship of the Greater Toronto Central Region For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics competition on March 4-5 at Ryerson University as a part of its long-standing involvement with FIRST Canada.

FIRST Canada was established in 2001 to meet the growing need for student robotics programs in Canada. FIRST Robotics Competition involves over 200 teams of high school students 14 years of age and older, to build and compete with a robot of their own design while having the opportunity to work alongside professional engineer volunteer coaches.

“The vision of FIRST is to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders. This is an excellent fit with SYNNEX’ philanthropic goals to give back to our community and to support the next generation of IT leaders through STEM educational initiatives,” said SYNNEX Corporation’s President and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Murai, who also serves as the Chair of the Executive Advisory Board of FIRST Canada. “It’s critical for the IT industry to support organizations like FIRST to ignite a young person’s curiosity in learning how to create possibilities through technology.”

“Since 2011, SYNNEX Canada has supported FIRST initiatives through sponsoring events, coaching teams, judging FIRST Robotics competitions and participation of executive leadership on our advisory board,” said Mark Breadner, Executive Director, FIRST Canada. “The financial support from SYNNEX, as well as from all our sponsors, has helped FIRST Canada grow its programs, extend the reach of the competitions, and impact more students throughout Canada.”
