Underwater Robotics Club Plans to Improve Seawolf III Robot

Underwater Robotics Club, group of electrical and computer engineering students, is working on improving their ‘Seawolf III’ which was unveiled at the 2009 Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International contest.

Chris Thunes, Project Manager of Underwater Robotics Club, has stated that they have decided to perform few upgrades like including a grabber for handing objects and software upgrades for making the robot to run.

Underwater Robotics Club’s first robot, ‘Seawolf I’ was built along with a local robotics firm and was launched at the 2005 RoboSub contest. Their second robot, Seawolf II was released in 2006 at the AUVSI contest.

Members of the Club have mentioned that the group offers real world experience and has also enabled them to receive placements and co-ops. Ray Zeisz, the Industry Advisor of Underwater Robotics Club, has stated that unlike real world company, the Underwater Robotics Club includes not only engineers but also needs the initiatives of students with management, computer science and design majors.
