Lima Memorial Health System Acquires Tru-D SmartUVC Advanced Germ-Eliminating Robot

Lima Memorial Health System, a leader in infection prevention, today welcomed Tru-D SmartUVC, the most advanced UVC germ-eliminating robot on the market, as its most recent investment in patient safety and quality of care.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hospital-acquired infections affect two million people every year, resulting in nearly 100,000 deaths and $30 billion in medical costs. Although hospitals strive to adhere to stringent infection prevention guidelines, human error is inevitable. However, Tru-D eliminates human error and takes the guesswork out of room disinfection, especially in patient areas where hospital-acquired infections are a risk. Lima Memorial plans to use the robot before every surgery at the hospital and eventually in the hospital's isolation rooms.

PotashCorp, the world's largest crop nutrient company, stepped forward to partner with Lima Memorial for the purchase of a Tru-D Smart UVC. "You can't stand still in healthcare, and PotashCorp's gift has enabled us to make a leap into the future with cutting-edge technology to virtually eliminate infections," said Mike Swick, president and CEO of Lima Memorial Health System.

Tru-D is the only portable UV disinfection system that precisely measures reflected UVC emissions with Sensor360™ technology and automatically calculates the pathogen-lethal UV dose required to terminally disinfect each room, dynamically compensating for room size, shape and other dose-altering variables, including position of contents, windows, blinds and doors. Additionally, Tru-D tracks disinfection outcomes through its iTru-D feature, which provides real-time visual usage data, including disinfection times, progress, dose delivery and location, through a cloud-based portal.

The ECRI Institute named disinfecting robots as the No. 1 technology in the Top 10 Hospital C-Suite Watch List for 2015.  And, by no coincidence, the highly anticipated results of the most comprehensive UV disinfection study to date, Benefits of Enhanced Terminal Room Disinfection performed by the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network, are due out later this year. Tru-D was selected as the exclusive device for this $2 million landmark study, which was funded by the CDC.

"Lima Memorial has shown its commitment to infection prevention, translating into healthier patients. We're proud that Tru-D can help them continue this commitment," said Chuck Dunn, president and CEO of Tru-D SmartUVC LLC. "This is clearly an organization focused on innovation and proven results, and with the robot's ability to achieve 99.99 percent disinfection, Tru-D will further this focus."

Lima Memorial Health System joins a growing roster of leading health care institutions that have invested in the technology, including UNC Health Care, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health.
