Andros, a robot that has starred in a popular Hollywood film, The Hurt Locker, will take a center stage at the Military Bowl.
The football game between the East Carolina Pirates and the Maryland Terrapins will be telecasted in ESPN.
The Andros will deliver the game ball at the RFK Stadium, Washington, D.C., to the midfield while the coin is flipped. Andros has been developed by Remotec, a technology company based in Clinton, as part of the company’s Andros HD-1 robot fleet. The fleet is being used to dispose improvised explosive devices in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The Military Bowl is sponsored by Northrop Grumman, the parent company of Remotec. Earlier, Northrop Grumman announced that the fleet of HD-1 unmanned ground vehicles of the US Air Force will be upgraded by Remotec. Under this contract, 173 Andros systems will be upgraded in the next two years. Remotec has secured $11.2 million funding for the first year of the order.
